Hello,
Maintaining natural hair means that I live a life of shea butter and coconut oil, with a strong curl pattern that will simply never allow me to “wash and go.” Even though I’m several years removed from roots in the American South and Southwest, a southern accent remains. More and more I find myself focusing on internal renovation instead of external landscaping, climbing that popular though ever-elusive ladder to false success and security that has come so naturally to me.
JOURNEY
In the words of Shug in Alice Walker’s classic work, The Color Purple: “I think that it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.” Life is filled with endless beauty and way more notable, ordinary moments than anything else. I don’t want the magic of the mundane to pass me by as I have in the past. I am learning to embrace even the hardships, disappointments, and pain of life without oozing anxiety at every corner, desperately coordinating every step of a carefully crafted five-year personal strategic plan. After spending over a decade serving at-risk, communities as a Special Education teacher and administrator, I am sitting at his feet to uncover what is next on my journey.
ROOTS
I’m an ex-church kid who has learned through the unfortunate pains of rebellion that God wants us to surrender to establishing a personal relationship with Him. It isn’t about religious rules or spirituality, but a life of faith in obedience to God’s will. My biggest supporter on that journey is my wonderful husband of 16 years. Because of his job we have called a lot of places home through the years, but are grateful to be near Lake Michigan now.

PURPOSE
This space is all about sharing my faith journey with women who need to be both encouraged and challenged in Christ. I'm thankful to God to have discovered the power of grace and deliverance from pain and addiction, which has led to an acceptance of truth. My aim now is to share God’s love, and in doing so empower women to share their own stories to assist in the spreading of the Good News of Jesus Christ. Despite what anyone tells you, in life grace and grit are not optional. We need them both. We need each other, yes. But first, we need God.
